The Good and Better Teachers’ Toolkit aims primarily to provide teachers with the knowledge, strategies and a range of approaches that will support them in developing their teaching so that it is consistently “Good.” In addition, it will begin to move participants towards understanding elements of “Outstanding” practice.

The programme is delivered over two days and offers participants opportunities to reflect upon their current practice and to identify personal areas for development. It incorporates both individual and collaborative practical activities, facilitated discussion, learning walks and classroom visits in two schools that have both been judged by Ofsted to be Outstanding, along with some direct training, advice and tips from the facilitator.

The Good and Better Teachers’ Toolkit has been designed, written and is led by an experienced trainer and course facilitator who is a teaching and learning specialist with up to date knowledge and understanding of Good and Outstanding practice and current Ofsted expectations.

In addition, she has worked alongside many teachers in both a mentoring and coaching role, in order to improve and extend their practice.

The essential elements of the Toolkit:

  • Un-picking Ofsted’s “Good” and “Outstanding” Quality of Teaching descriptors: – what do they really mean and what do they look like in practice?
  • Ensuring and demonstrating pupil progress through highly effective Assessment for Learning strategies, including how to write and make the best use of high quality Learning Objectives and Success Criteria making the most of teacher feedback opportunities and meaningful self and peer-assessment strategies.
  • High quality Differentiation and Challenge strategies: ensuring maximum progress for ALL pupils.
  • Questioning techniques that deepen pupil thinking and enhance pupil progress.
