Hey April, I’m looking at you! Though March was a great month, and I’m not too eager to send it running just so soon. Unless, of course, 80-degree days are here to stay, in which case: SAYONARA, MARCH!
In March, I spent eight days in hotels or rentals, a record low for me, I think. This is because we specifically set aside the month for home reno tasks (see more below), and I found myself turning down work trips and assignments to Italy, Whistler and beyond. That stung, but I know it will pay off in the long-run! This is also why I only managed to write five blog posts in the past month, when I usually swing nearly double that.
But the biggest news of all of course was…
HIGHS
MY NEW NIECE WAS BORN. Baby girl couldn’t wait for me to get back from California and made her debut early: She was born on March 5 at 8 pounds and 7 ounces, all of which I’m pretty sure reside in her cheeks. She is perfect and so, so, so cute.
And she’s also already got some serious side-eye going on.
We spent eight days in California. Highlights were our lofty perch at Muir Beach Overlook, quality time with SVV’s parents in Olema, a beach day at Point Reyes with my sweet niece and four days eating our way through San Francisco.
My Conde Nast Traveler guide debuted to the world! Whew, that was a time-suck. While I can’t say I’ll ever take on a project like this again—it gave me PTSD back to my guidebook-writing days—it’s nice to have it out there for travelers to Nashville to enjoy.
We’re knee-deep in renovating another house. In case you missed it, we bought a new investment property last year, and we’ve hit the gas with renovating it before Memorial Day, which is stressful and has us exhausted trying to work on that, our Victorian and, oh yeah, keep up with our business. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve likely seen it in my Stories (and if you missed it, I created a highlights album so you can go back and see our progression).

Our business has really taken off. 2016 was our first year working together full-time without SVV having an office job by day. 2017 was insane, and I didn’t think we could possibly handle more on our plate, but 2018 has already even topped that in terms of weekly client work and project commitments. Our calendar is pretty full through the rest of the year with a number of companies we work with on a regular basis and others who have booked us for winter 2018/2019, which seems just downright bonkers. I’m grateful to get to run a business with my husband that we have expanded—in addition to writing and photography, we do digital strategy, brand development, drone work and video production, creative consulting, grant research and applications, web development and much, much more. It’s a blast, it’s tiring, it’s ever-changing, it’s exhilarating.
LOWS
I haven’t actually had time to train for the half-marathon I’m running in May. See: renovating a second home + a million other tasks. Gulp.
I’m very much looking forward to April, though, not only because it (hopefully) means spring is here to stay, but also because we have some exciting travel projects to Indiana, Alabama and Virginia on the docket.
What was the high of your March?
All of my past monthly highlights can be found here.
Of course my highlight was your niece, my granddaughter, being born. The prettiest baby ever!! And having you take such great photos is icing on the cake!! You are so talented.
PRETTIEST BABY EVER. We are in total agreement there! So lucky for her, too, that she has the best two sets of grandparents ever.
I visited both Northern Norway & St. Petersburg (Russia) in March. I adored March! 🙂 Now, I’m looking forward to my birthday in April and my annual birthday trip. This time I’m going to Normandy in France!
What a month for you! Can’t wait to catch up on all your recent travels.
I’m real glad you had time to get stuff done in March and I’m very cranky that I won’t be able to come to the insta meet-up in Va. Beach. And your niece!! SO CUTE!
THANK YOU. I’m kind of obsessed with her.
